Molendinar Awards
Molendinar Awards

On Friday 13th January Alexandra Parade Primary was at the Molendinar Awards for a second year! The awards mark the celebration of the life of Glasgow’s Patron Saint – Saint Mungo.

The final 12 schools were invited to the awards presentation in the city’s Banqueting Hall. The Molendinar Awards enables children to become more aware of Glasgow’s rich cultural heritage and the vital links between the school and the neighbouring communities.

We were delighted to receive our framed certificate and would to thank our hard working Primary 7 children who all contributed! Well done!

Simply Pandatastic!
Simply Pandatastic!

Tuesday 13th December

What a Pandatastic day!

Well what a terrific day we have had at the school today. We had one of Edinburgh’s finest visit us in our school. To celebrate our new friends, Sweetie and Sunshine arriving in Scotland we held our ‘Welcome to Scotland’ Assembly. We welcomed our visiting Panda with greetings in Mandarin, wore our Panda masks and waved Scottish Flags. In honour of the visiting Panda and the Edinburgh Zoo Keeper we sang Scottish songs, recited Burns and even had a soloist on a fiddle. They were delighted at this welcome! We loved every moment of this experience. All we have left to say is “WELCOME TO SCOTLAND!”

“I thought the Panda was really nice and I really enjoyed being part of the photos!” Lewis W (P3)

“I loved learning the Panda’s language and the new words. It was great when the Panda waved his flags! I loved seeing the picture of the baby Panda!”

“What a FUN experience! The Panda was cool!” Elise (P7)

HMIe Inspection March 2011

Alexandra Parade Primary School, Dennistoun, Glasgow City Council

Particular strengths of the school

• Positive, inclusive ethos where children are very well behaved and enthusiastic about learning.

• Attainment in English language.

• Partnership with parents, the community and others.

• Support for children who need help in their learning.

• Self evaluation and teamwork of staff, leading to improvement.

• Leadership of the headteacher.

What happens next?

As a result of the very good quality of education provided by the school, we will make no further visits in connection with this inspection. The education authority will inform parents about the school’s progress as part of the authority’s arrangements for reporting to parents on the quality of its schools.

We have agreed the following area for improvement with the school and education authority.

• Continue to provide a high quality education which meets the needs of all children.
